Glimpse of Evolution in Action
Looking backward, the history of civilization reveals
a mysterious rhythm. This enigmatic design hides an unsuspected dynamism
of evolution.
We
can take as our objective to show that this dynamism uncovers a non-random
pattern of universal history in the emergence of world civilization.
We
live in the first generation able to detect such a pattern in world history.

At
a time when theories of evolution are under challenge, the assumption that
evolution occurs, and must occur, at random is the crux of the dispute,
and one unreasonably confused with issues of religion and secularization.
This
study of the so-called Eonic Effect can break the deadlock by resolving
the great Challenge of Kant to find a pattern of Universal History. Its
ironic interpretation is a form of 'evolution'. The only closely
sampled process of 'evolution' known is that seen in world history itself,
the
Eonic Effect.
We
live in the first generation with a five thousand year record since the
invention of cuneiform to see macroevolution in our own history. This enigmatic
pattern is not what we should have expected from current views of history
so influenced by Darwinism, and must ask us where this theory might be
wrong in its application to history. For we see strong evidence for historical
directionality.
Consideration
of the Eonic Effect shows a simple way to find coherence in basic periodization
alone and might give us a way to put our ideas about evolution into a realistic
perspective that does justice both to man as man, and the evolution, or

The search for a pattern of Universal History has
been a long one. The perception of the Eonic Effect shows the issue's resolution,
as a process of 'abstract evolution'. Once perceived, this difficult structure
causes many of the confusions of historical understanding to fall into
place, simply disappear, and accounts for many facts of our view of the
past, or notice in passing and take for granted, but which are actually
somewhat mysterious.

Prelude
The
legacy of modern historical research is an ambiguous
one: the conductor's baton of the Universal Historian taps the podium,
the theme of evolution rising aggressively to the fore, soon becoming the
basis of secular thought about human origins.
Although evolutionary research has proved a success as a project of empirical
discovery, the claims of evolutionary theory are much less certain than
we might expect. Critics of Darwinism often point to the fossil record,
upon which Darwin issued a claim of evidence to come, in favor of his thesis.
This evidence would now seem less than clear.
But there is an ambiguity at the heart of evolutionary theory itself, where
this pursues the timeless 'laws of nature' onto nature's stage of life
where time is of the essence, and the timely arrival of an abundance of
creatures finds no reckoning in the orbits of mass and force.
As if by a new law, the era of life finds refuge in a global moment, hideaway
to beasts of a small planet, making engines of machines to consume mass
and force.
At last we find man whose claim is to cut history from evolution, graduate
from all laws into a domain of freedom, as a law unto himself, in the dolmenization
of small kingdoms and the self-realization of his individuality.
In this ambiguity of chance and necessity we might search for the deeper
meaning behind our use of the term 'evolution'.

Our
subject is not just evolution, but the transition between 'evolutions',

Darwiniana
Although
our subject is not Darwinism, its influence on ideas of history is so great
that we are drawn into the Darwin debate at the beginning to see the difficulties
in current views of the descent of man. Darwinism is currently considered
beyond reproach, or even discussion, by predominant opinion. Yet the theory
has severe weaknesses. This page is a series of resources to extricate
oneself from the Creationist-reductionist entanglement. Study of the eonic
effect is a useful way to caution Darwinian dogmatism, without abandoning
the context of evolution. Once we see the stupendous scale of real 'evolution
in action', we will set the oversimplifications aside, and adopt a more
cautious view near the intractable complexity of real evolutionary theories.
